Welcome to Cyclotherapy
I created Cyclotherapy as a separate project to my clinical practice, The Mindworks, in order to combine my professional expertise as a psychologist with my passion for cycling. I believe that therapeutic psychology can make a positive contribution to cycling performance, whether helping to recover from the psychological impact of adverse circumstances such as accident, illness or injury as well as using proven clinical techniques to improve performance and create that "competitive edge".
I am Peter Hudson, a Chartered Psychologist, and have been running The Mindworks for around 14 years. My main area of interest is psychological trauma, that is the kinds of problems that develop after people have experienced frightening or distressing events such as accidents, personal assaults or natural disasters. I have been particularly interested in helping to overcome "sporting trauma", where someone has an accident or injury that leads to a reduction in performance in competition due to anxiety. I decided to focus this specifically on cycling after my own accident in 2007 in which I broke my wrist and shoulder. I found that I was very anxious on the bike after this, but was fortunate to be able to get some therapeutic help in the form of EMDR and was enabled to overcome my anxiety.
